UPDATES TO 2020-2021 TRAINING YEAR

The current pandemic has changed the way we operate and how the cadet training year will look for the 2020-21 training year. Safety of cadets and staff are a top priority for the Canadian Cadet Organization and 2799. Below are some key points for the upcoming training year:
The current pandemic has changed the way we operate and how the cadet training year will look for the 2020-21 training year. Safety of cadets and staff are a top priority for the Canadian Cadet Organization and 2799. Below are some key points for the upcoming training year:
- No training will be conducted prior to 1 Sep 2020;
- No in-person training will be conducted prior to 1 Oct 2020;
- All cadets and adult personnel MUST wear a non-medical mask (NMM) to participate in any in-person training;
- Department of National Defence (DND) will provide NMMs to ALL cadets and staff, but not before 15 Oct 2020;
- NMMs must be worn by all adult personnel and cadets at ALL times during in-person training;
- Face shields or any other alternative face covering in place of an NMM is NOT permitted;
- Any cadet who is unable to wear a mask due to medical reasons will be restricted to virtual training only;
- All adult personnel and cadets must report to their Chain of Command if they have been tested for COVID-19;
- All cadets and adult personnel must complete the COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool prior to departing home for any in-person training;
- Anyone experiencing symptoms of the regular influenza should NOT report for any in-person training;
- All cadets will be grouped in "cohorts" (i.e. star levels) and will only train within their cohort;
- No overnight activities will be permitted for the 2020-21 training year;
- All cadet activities will be limited to a 1hr drive time from the local headquarters (LHQ). i.e. the armoury;
- No international travel will be permitted prior to 1 Sep 2021;
- Therefore all exchanges (i.e. MLE, NRT, International Expeditions, etc.) are cancelled for the 2020-21 training year;
- There shall be no in-person music training until further notice; and
- No in-person Regionally Directed Activities (RDAs) or Nationally Directed Activities (NDAs) shall be conducted at this time. i.e Regional Expeditions, Regional Marksmanship competitions, Regional Biathlon competitions, etc.
- Marksmanship, biathlon, drill and orienteering can continue at the LHQ;
- Expedition Sites may operate in the Fall.
2799 Training
We are seeking to begin our virtual training 9 Oct 2020. Virtual training will be conducted during our regular parade time on Friday evenings from 1900-2100hrs using Zoom. Each virtual parade night will consist of an opening parade, two (2) 40 minute lessons with a break in between, and a closing parade. Cadets will require a computer, laptop, or other internet device to attend virtual training. Cadets are expected to actively participate in virtual training. Cadets will be required to wear their uniform for virtual training. Links to virtual training will be posted on the 2799 website under the Weekly Training.
In-person activities will begin as necessary. More information to follow.
A Q&A with the Commanding Officer, Major Dan Copeland, will be held virtually on 14 Oct 2020. A link will be provided on the 2799 website closer to the date.
